What a Well-Prepared Charter Actually Looks Like

The difference between a good charter and a forgettable one comes down to preparation, crew quality, and the small decisions made before the vessel leaves the dock. Here is what we bring to each trip.

Core Advantages

MPA-Licensed Captains

All voyages led by credentialled mariners with deep familiarity with Singapore coastal and offshore waters.

Compliant Vessels

Vessels registered and regularly inspected by MPA. Safety equipment is current and correctly maintained.

Flexible Arrangements

Departure times, catering preferences, and route details can be discussed before the booking is confirmed.

Considered Catering

Food and drink are planned as part of the charter experience, not treated as an afterthought. Fresh provisions on longer passages.

Local Routing Knowledge

Routes are planned using knowledge built from years on these waters — not based on generic itineraries.

Direct Communication

Enquiries are handled by the operations team, not a call centre. You receive clear, specific answers before booking.

Each Advantage, Explained

Professional Maritime Expertise

Our captains hold MPA Master Certificates and have spent years navigating the waters around Singapore — including the southern islands, the Riau Archipelago approaches, and the busy channels of the southern Strait of Malacca. That experience shapes how routes are planned, how conditions are assessed, and how the vessel is handled in varying sea states.

The dive instructor who accompanies the Diving Day Charter is PADI-certified with a decade of experience at local dive sites. Guests receive a proper briefing, not a hurried overview.

MPA Master Certificate holders on all voyages

PADI-certified dive instruction on the day charter

Pre-departure weather and tidal assessment on every departure

Safety briefings delivered clearly at the start of each charter

Chart plotter and AIS navigation systems

VHF radio communication onboard

Full dive platform and freshwater rinse on the day charter

Sheltered cockpit and observation decks for guest comfort

Vessel Equipment and Technology

The vessels are fitted with navigation and safety equipment appropriate to the charter type. The skyline cruise yacht carries chart plotters and VHF communication. The expedition yacht adds AIS, satellite communication, and a full medical kit for multi-day offshore use.

All vessels undergo scheduled maintenance and MPA periodic inspections. A maintenance log is kept current, and no charter departs on equipment that is overdue for service.

Attentive and Straightforward Service

Enquiries are answered by the operations team — the same people who plan and confirm the charter. There is no handoff to a separate booking department. Questions about group size, catering requirements, or route preferences are addressed directly, with specific answers.

On the day of the charter, the crew is attentive without being intrusive. Guests are oriented and comfortable from the moment they board, but the pace of the voyage is theirs to determine.

Enquiries handled directly by the operations team

Pre-charter confirmation and packing information provided

Crew attentive and experienced in working with varied guest groups

Post-charter follow-up available if needed

Charter pricing is per booking, not per person — clear at the outset

Food, drinks, and equipment included in charter price

No hidden surcharges for crew or standard equipment

Shared across groups of up to 6–12, depending on charter type

Transparent, Per-Charter Pricing

All charter prices are stated per booking. The City Skyline Cruise at S$570 is for the whole vessel — up to twelve guests sharing the cost. The same applies to the Diving Day Charter at S$2,500 and the South China Sea Expedition at S$4,700. There are no additional charges for crew, standard dive equipment, or catering included in the charter.

Custom requests — specific catering upgrades, extended duration — are discussed and quoted clearly before confirmation.

A Track Record on the Water

Over eight years of operation, Tanjong Sails has completed more than 340 private charters — from short evening trips to multi-day passages. The majority of bookings come through personal recommendation, which reflects the consistency of what guests experience.

Our approach is not dramatic. We prepare carefully, operate safely, and try to make the time on the water worthwhile. That has been enough to sustain a steady reputation among Singapore's private charter market.

340+ completed charters over eight years

Majority of bookings come via personal referral

What Only Tanjong Sails Offers

Three Distinct Charter Formats

Rather than offering a single flexible vessel for any occasion, we have developed three specific charter formats — each designed around a different pace, purpose, and duration. Guests choose a format suited to what they actually want from the water.

Founding Captain on Expeditions

The South China Sea Expedition is led personally by Rajan Krishnan, the company's founding captain. Guests on that charter are in experienced hands for the entire passage — not assigned to whoever is available.

Fresh Provisions Sourced En Route

On the multi-day expedition, the onboard cook sources fresh fish and provisions at island markets along the Riau Archipelago. Meals are prepared with what is available locally — a detail that improves the quality and authenticity of the experience.

Dive Sites Selected by Conditions

The dive charter operates at sites south of Pulau Hantu, where the instructor selects specific entry points based on current tidal conditions and seasonal visibility. The goal is the best experience possible on that day, not adherence to a fixed location.
