A Charter Company Built Around the Water

Tanjong Sails was founded by people who spend their own time on Singapore waters. That perspective shapes every decision, from how the vessels are maintained to how each charter is prepared.

How Tanjong Sails Came Together

Tanjong Sails started with a straightforward observation: most people who want to spend time on the water around Singapore have no easy way to do it well. Either they are handed a vessel without real guidance, or the experience is shaped more by a tour schedule than by the sea itself.

The company was set up to offer something more considered. Each charter is planned with an understanding of local waters — tidal patterns, marine traffic, the places worth visiting, and the ones better avoided. The crew comes from a maritime background, not a hospitality script.

Our name refers to the old nautical term for the point where a harbour meets open water. That transition — from the city's edge to open sea — is where we operate. Whether the voyage is two hours or four days, the intention is the same: to give guests genuine time on the water, prepared properly and handled well.

Who Handles Your Charter

Our permanent team is small and experienced. For expedition charters, additional crew are brought in from a pool of MPA-certified mariners we have worked with for years.

RK

Rajan Krishnan

Founding Captain

Holds an MPA Master's Certificate and has spent over two decades navigating Singapore's coastal and offshore waters. Leads the South China Sea expeditions personally.

SL

Serena Lim

Operations & Charters

Manages bookings, pre-departure planning, and client communication. Has a background in marine logistics and coordinates all provisioning for overnight passages.

AP

Ahmad Purnomo

Lead Dive Instructor

PADI Divemaster with twelve years of experience in Southeast Asian waters. Leads all diving sessions on the day charter and knows Pulau Hantu's reef sites well.

How We Prepare Each Voyage

Every charter follows a set of preparation protocols that are straightforward and consistent. Nothing elaborate — just thorough, reliable attention to what matters.

MPA Licensing

All vessels are registered and inspected under the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. Crew hold current MPA certifications appropriate to their roles.

Scheduled Maintenance

Each vessel follows a structured maintenance schedule. Engine systems, navigation equipment, and safety gear are checked and serviced on a regular cycle.

Safety Briefings

A clear safety briefing is given to all guests at the start of every charter. Emergency equipment locations, communication protocols, and basic procedures are covered.

Weather Assessment

The captain reviews wind, swell, and weather forecasts in the days prior to departure. Charters are postponed rather than operated in conditions that compromise comfort or safety.

Data Privacy

Guest information collected during the booking process is handled in accordance with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act. Contact details are not shared with third parties.

Environmental Conduct

Waste disposal follows MPA environmental regulations. On diving and expedition charters, crew brief guests on responsible reef conduct and anchoring practices that avoid coral damage.

Singapore Waters: What We Know

Singapore sits at a convergence of shipping lanes, tidal channels, and coastal marine zones that reward those who understand them. The southern anchorages, the islands of the Riau Archipelago, the dive sites around Pulau Hantu and Sisters' Islands — each has its own character, visible from a chart but only fully understood through time spent on the water.

Tanjong Sails draws on years of navigating these waters to plan charters that make the most of the conditions available. An evening skyline cruise, for example, is timed around the onset of cooler air off the bay and positioned to catch the best angles of the illuminated financial district. A diving charter is planned around tidal windows that maximise underwater visibility. An expedition passage is routed to take advantage of prevailing winds and to arrive at anchorages before other vessels.

This depth of local knowledge is not incidental — it is the core of what we offer. Charter guests benefit from planning that goes well beyond a departure time and a fuel budget.
